The SMART-ACTUATOR: One housing – many possibilities for actuators in the vehicles of tomorrow!

Magnet-Schultz has expanded its product portfolio by adding innovative electric actuators and is presenting its latest product: the “SMART-ACTUATOR” electric drive system.

 

The challenge: a wide range of applications with varied requirements in demanding environmental conditions

In modern vehicle concepts – whether electric, hybrid or with a combustion engine – energy efficiency plays a central role. For this reason, vehicle architecture is being reconsidered. Functions that are traditionally driven by the vehicle’s engine via hydraulic, pneumatic or other mechanical systems generally continue to consume power even when not being utilised by the actuator, thereby causing unwanted losses.

This is where electric actuators come into play. By utilising energy on demand, they drive parking locks, control gearboxes, drive valves for thermal management, perform functions in engine management, and enable rotary or linear positioning of all kinds of vehicle components, thereby increasing a vehicle’s overall efficiency.

The wide range of different applications demands flexibility, while the environmental conditions in the passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors require robustness, reliability, cost-effectiveness and, last but not least, maximum performance with minimum installation space.

With the SMART-ACTUATOR, Magnet-Schultz is now introducing a pioneering drive solution to meet these challenges. The new electric motor actuator is based on a modular platform that offers maximum flexibility combined with high robustness. A well-designed housing concept allows numerous configuration options – enabling it to be tailored to the specific application and industry.

The SMART-ACTUATOR drive system is characterised by high torque and force output and is particularly robust thanks to its integrated mechanical and electrical overload protection. It therefore meets even the most demanding requirements in the automotive and commercial vehicle sectors and ensures a high level of operational reliability throughout its entire service life.
 

Modularity as the key to success.

The key advantage of the SMART-ACTUATOR is its consistently modular design. In its basic version, the drive system is designed for rotary movements and offers the following range of configurations:

  • Ratio range i from 18 to 200
  • With / without mechanical torque limiter
  • Worm gear (self-locking) or spur gear (non-self-locking)
  • Various connector variants
  • 2 connector positions
  • Pure version without electronics
  • Add-on module for linear movements
  • Mechanical output variants: e.g. shaft or spine
  • Add-on module for linear motion

  • Dimensions: 130 x 130 x 70 mm
  • Voltage range: 9 – 16 V DC
  • Max. current consumption: 20 A DC
  • Temperature range: -40 ... +120 °C
  • Protection class: IP67 / IP6K9K
  • Outputs/signals: CAN bus, LIN bus, PWM, angular position
  • Integrated electronics: Position control, speed control incl. soft start/stop, overload protection, ASIL B
