As the central decision-making and supervisory committee, the University Council has the function of a supervisory board. It has equal representation and, in addition to the elected internal members of the Senate, is made up of ten representatives from science and culture, in particular from business and professional practice. The external members are appointed by the Minister of Science. This also means that external expertise can be involved in university management. The Board's tasks include the election of the President and Vice-Presidents. It also passes resolutions on the basic regulations, university development planning and the introduction of new degree programmes.

Other external members of the University Council in Kempten include Birgit Kastner-Simon, DACHSER SE, Senior Consultant to the CEO, Cora Bethke-Frank, Managing Director of the family-run company Parkhotel Frank GmbH, Katharina Sinz, Managing Director of Lebenshilfe, Kreisvereinigung Memmingen/Unterallgäu e. V., Wolfgang Sochor, Management Board Value Chain Management HAWE Hydraulik, Anke Richmann, Commercial Plant Manager Bosch Blaichach, Andreas Ruland, Chairman of the Management Board of Klinikverbund Allgäu, Peter Leo Dobler, Managing Director Dobler GmbH & Co KG, Dieter Hess, Managing Partner Codesys Group and Michael Lucke, Managing Director of Allgäuer Überlandwerke.

Appointment to an honorary member of the university
Having reached the maximum possible term of office, the following members stepped down from the University Council: Stefan Fuchs, Alfred Geißler, Brigitta Hofmann, Hans-Peter Rauch, Gerhard Schlichtherle and Martina Szautner. They were awarded the title of honorary member at this year's University Day for their many years of service to the university.
